It is connected via optical lead,no hdmi I'm afraid. I bought mine purely for music quality and the ease of streaming music from anywhere in the house,from pc's,ipads etc so can't really comment on Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos as I just know what sounds good . I went for a demo and I preferred this to everything else I heard but more than happy with it when watching movies or on the xbox. You need to go to a shop really and see what you feel is the best system that suits your needs.
