im looking to upgrade the rad in the hall of my house
rad is a double panel at 135cm is getting rough on it

but i was looking at the mornal places screw fix and the likes
its seems to now go 120 / 140

i know a 140 wont go in, but i could redo the pipes, dont really want to

so the 120 is the easier setup really, but how do i end from the lockshield to the rad?

thanks stephen

tails go into the rad, then your lockshield/TRV goes onto those
how did you measure at 135.? thats not standard, did you measure including the tails,?

No that was the rad it self, from crimped side to the other. I don’t know the technical terms sorry

Personally i would use https://www.toolstation.com/shop/Heating+&+Insulation/d230/Radiator+Valves/sd2762/Rigid+Radiator+Valve+Extension+/p13659
As rigid can be cut down and look nicer in the long run, there are some plumb merchants that can get slightly different sized rads but aint worth the extra cost.

ye, thats probably a better option,
I did say mine was just an example,
although nothing wrong with the sliding ones, I've had one on my bathroom rail for about 3 years now

its a 1200mm rad then for you
and if you cant get a long enough tail you can cut it enough so you can put a joint and make it the length you need

This is what I’m working with

I'd cut that pipe on the left and put an elbow on it at the right distance for your new rad ,
but that would mean draining down your system
do you have a combi boiler?
if so, I'd deffo drain it, flush it through, and put some inhibitor in, and change the lockshield to a TRV

the one on the right has the tvr on it and all
yea i have a combi.

il maybe leave the rad of for a while, lasted from October lol with out it, its only the hall. as i want to change a few more of the rads to something more modern

ah, ok, so you already have a TRV, leave the left as a lockshield then

Just having a think

So my rad is 135cm and I need to get a 120cm rad
That’s 15cm of a difference

That’s a right wee bit, look strange having a lock/trv so far away,
Near 6”, been told that’s a lot lol

Yea think the old rad will need to go back on until the summer

as I said, I'd cut the LH pipe, add an elbow at the right position,
not that big a job on a combi system

Yea I can do it easy enough
Just more the idea of it

As said do it during warmer weather. Where I can leave it for a few days
