One LNB feed split into two?

Hello, I have looked into this but can't find a definitive answer. Some say you can, others say it is box suicide.
Please advise.
I only have one lnb satellite cable running into my room where the h2s is. If I want to record, and TBH, it is usually the free to air channels that are recorded, would a satellite splitter work? Worse still, would it wreck my box. What would happen?
Thanks so much for any assistance given.

Using a splitter doesn't normally work on a sat cable connection.
The signal goes to the strongest channel and generally overrides the second request for a signal.
Two sat cable connections is the only correct way to achieve this.

One feed may be okay of watching and recording channels from the same polarity. i.e. both horizontal or both vertical.
Problems arise when one being watched is H, and the one being recorded is V, or vice versa.
Get a dual or quad feed lnb and run separate feeds to your receiver.
