openbox v8s box not responding

Hi

We have two openbox v8s boxes, one downstairs and one upstairs and the box upstairs was not responding to the remote control so got the remote from downstairs as thought it was that but the remote from downstairs was not doing nothing either so then tested the upstairs remote on the downstairs box so am guessing the upstairs box is knackered, is there anything I can do like a hard reset or anything as it was working all ok this morning before I left for work

I take it powering down the box and powering back up again has been tried?press tv on the remote also, see if that changes anything
 
yeah I unplugged the power cable from the back of the box for a minute and then plugged it back in again and still no joy

I'll try pressing tv on the remote to see if does anything

You need the help of the Reaper Ian, keep an eye out for him. His knowledge of these boxes is far superior to most on here and it sounds like something fairly simple.
 
OK cool, hopefully reaper can help, hopefully he will see this post and help out

Knock knock---guess who?
Is there any life in the box ie is the front display on? Take the box downstairs---leave psu and use the other one ---see if box fires up.
Wake me up with answer.

yeah there is life on the front of the box, got the number 0003 cause is on itv

ok just popping out for 20 mins but will try that when U get back, so just to confirm take the one from upstairs, use the power lead from the downstairs box and see if it fires up, that right?
 
UPDATE:

I did what you said reaper and still no joy, I unplugged the cables from the upstairs box, took it downstairs and plugged in the cables from the downstairs box into the box from upstairs and it fires up and displays the picture and sound all ok but does not respond to any buttons pressed on the remote control
 
It seems possible that the remote sensor in the front panel of the box has passed away overnite----there is a slight possibility it can be resurrected using a reflash of firmware with the RS232 null modem cable [always worth a try]---if no go then try to find a box for spares or save the tears of despair and buy a new oneIf you can't flash your box yourself then contact me as others here do and I'm willing to try for you.

You can use that cable as long as you have added the drivers to your laptop---you also need the ali3511 erom upgrade tool plus download No81 available from Downloads.

Just a thought but would the box not being able to connect to the internet cause the issue I am having cause I have one of those skybox wifi usb adaptors that I got off ebay and is for openboxes but noticed if I plug it in, it does not come up with the ip address etc, like it used to before and I know the usb socket is ok on the box as I plugged a usb stick in it and that come up connected and then disconnected when I unplugged it

just a thought I had really
