pc running far to slow

Last few days my pc seems to be running far to slow. Have no idea why.
Have done my virus and malware checks and its picked up nothing. IVe also cleaned up my pc and defragd Seems to be certain times of day. like now the last 15 mins - its 3.30 pm here and about 9pm onwards at night. Instead of taking a few seconds to load a page or change a page its taking about about a minute or so. If i have more than a few pages open its even worse.

Any ideas?

Does this only occurr while browsing the net? Does it actually slow down pc functionality, like opening/running other applications not related to surfing the internet?

Are you using Internet Explorer or FireFox? I find Techkings loads much faster with Firefox.

I use IE at work, not by choice; and FF at home. I prefer FF all around.

id agree with 7th, could be a bad day for your internet provider, could be scheduled scans on the comp too, try control alt delete to start task manager to see whats running and what your performance is

Plus when you say you cleaned your pc, what do you mean linny? Did you run ccleaner, or what program do you use.

Try going into your tools on the internet and clearing your cookies every day, that should help.

its when im on the net or retreiveing emails - its about all i do lol! yes im on firefox
even to get task manager up its taken longer than it should. If im in my email program i click on an email and it takes time to open so thats not realy on the net is it i use Incredimail - bit like OE
CPU usage us 100% PF usage .98
no scans no applications other than this page lots of processes and it just seems to keep freezing whilst im trying to type ( the timer comes up) on networking its coming up 0.02 or 0%

this has taken almost 5 minutes to type this

i actually did that the other nite coz it was so bad but made no difference. I shut down every night. Took about 10 mins to shut down and when it came back it was just as slow so gave up. Only seems over the last few days its doing it and only new prog ive added is skype but thats not open atm got no chats open

I'd run a HiJack This log and send it to d4rkn1ght to look at, especially after your neice having that virus.

yeah linny eva's right, you could run a hijack log in safe mode to make it faster (shouldnt have the problem in safe mode but everything that is installed on your comp would still show up) and save the report to your desktop and restart normally then to get back to your internet

how do i do that. think i did it once before along time ago now. plus cant remember how to put in safe mode is F something but cant remember which one - will write it in me book this time.
ive not been on here much over the last few hrs and its still slow so must be something ive only been on here m forum and facebook so - which is where i spend most of my time.
But whilst i was on ebay earlier to day adding items it was fine, but that was during the afternoon.

Computers are known to have "personalities" as they say
One day they'll do everything you ask of them and some other days they will just fight against everything you want to do, thats why i asked in the other post it could be just blocked up or just stuck in a loop doing a certain operation

When you run the hijackthis select do a system scan and save a log file, remember to save it to where you can find it easily afterward :)
I dont have much exp reading the logs myself but the other chaps do so there might be something there you could do without

Linny is ye still having issues?? If you are DK is very helpful. He assisted (told me the progies to run actually) in clearing a friends VERY SLOW computer of numerous UGLIES which saved the computer and definitely made it quicker. I had added RAM (1GB) to this computer and did other things but to NO avail. The only fix was getting rid of hundreds of UGLIES!!!

Im having one of those weeks coz today me calculator would not work lol took me about 90 minutes to get a statement right no matter how many times i added it up and took it away answers were different. In the end i threatened the calculator with the adding machine - low and behold i got the correct answer - probably due to something not being credited to my statement lol! I got there in the end and now got a stinking headache lol!
Need a drink me finks!

ok got a log for you - wow cant believe how quick it was

linny, looks like you have a lot of programs starting up with your computer, and running in the backround, that tends to be everyones biggest problem. like the itunes for example. do you need it to start everytime with your pc? or could you just start it up when you needed it? that would save resources, hence speeding up your pc, almost all programs have the option in the program itself (usually under options) to disable running at startup. not only will this little bit speed up your pc, it will also make starting up your pc faster as well.

I noticed you have quite a few toolbars as well, i would delete a couple of them.

Best thing to do is ask DK to look at that logfile, he's the expert ;)
