An investigation is underway after a light aircraft crashed in a field next to the River Aire in West Yorkshire, killing the pilot.
It is not known what type of aircraft the pilot was flying
West Yorkshire Police said the 31-year-old was the only person aboard the plane.
Emergency services were called to the scene in an area between Castleford and Methley just after 4pm on Saturday.
The spokesman added: "Emergency services attended and located the wreckage of a one-seater light aircraft in a field next to the River Aire.
"Paramedics attended and pronounced life extinct on the sole occupant of the plane, a 31-year-old pilot.
"No other injuries were reported.
"The coroner's officer has been informed and an investigation will be conducted by the Civil Aviation Authority with West Yorkshire Police."
