playing back movies through enigma 2

how would you go about downloading a movie via kodi and saving it to a usb hdd, BUT in a format where your enigma 2 box would play it back ok when hdd plugged into the enigma box?

or am I barking up a mad tree ??

Would it not be via the file list button like if you recorded a program? Not sure where the target destination is set to. I've never tried it as never played with it enough to get it working! :-)
 
Just FTP to HDD/Movie - Make yourself a folder if you want to keep it separate from the recordings, and slap it in.

Go to where you play recordings back from, and press play.

Cheers guys,

At present on my laptop it is saved windows media player. if I click on open with" it offers the following
open with : iTunes , VLC media player, windows live movie maker, windows media player.
Can I just ftp the file in as windows media player or does it need changing to something my box will read .?
??
