Putting OS X on spare HDD in my PC ?

I have a spare hdd in my PC, can i install Mac OS X onto this and boot it to mac, i don't want to make PC Duel boot on start up and put windows 7 in jeopardy, i want to boot straight from the drive that has Mac on it just like we can boot to/from a CD.
Thanks for any help.

I don't think the hardware of your pc will be suited for the Mac OS. Take a look here:

I think the most difficult part will be the installation of OS X onto your non-mac hardware. Be sure that you have completely disconnected your windows drive prior to beginning the installation. After that, the most used method I seen was using the Boot Order key during the boot screen to choose which drive to boot from.

as they are saying with the hardware that it may not work as mac requires specific hardware for it to run , you could try and build an operating system onto a cd or usb and set up a virtual hardware on the disc/usb this means that you can fool mac into thinking it is running on the right hardware but is being run on a virtual hardware which can run on any type of hardware , i cant remember how to do this as it has been a while but hopefully someone on here can remember or knows how to do this

Thanks guys, in the past i have had PC Duel booting with windows xp and Snow Leopard, but eventually it messed up the Duel boot and would no longer give me a duel boot option, thats why i was thinking of putting it to a spare HDD and booting or trying to boot completely separate.
