What's new

Sd channels

So how long have we got until the sky encryption changes and we lose these? I will be gutted when it happens!

I stand to be corrected, but as far as Im aware, the SkyHD boxes have a newer chipset and use a different encryption method - thats why they can easily kill the HD channels.
However, all the old Pace etc white Sky SD boxes have the archaic old chipset, and the SD encryption method cannot be as secure so as the channels work on all these boxes.
So, basically unless Sky has a brainwave, we will have "free" SD channels forever, or until Sky decide enough is enough and exchange everone's old white box for a nice new HD one, so they can use the stronger encryption on all the channels.

This would cost Sky a fortune, but if they think they are losing enough via the boxes we all use, they may just bight the bullet.
After almost everyone and their dog in Virgin / Telewest / NTL areas had a Eurovox a few years ago, the cable tv providers had no choice but to issue new updated boxes to everyone who didnt have one at a cost of tens of millions, and it killed tv piracy dead literally overnight for a few years, so Sky may also decide enough is enough.....

Bit wide of the mark RustyMG----Sky Italia removed all hd first and then UK followed--Italia then removed sd by providing new cards but were beaten by the use of old caid 90 cards so they reinstalled sd but pumped out regular large ecm's which cause constant glitches and freezing to those cards in use by pirate servers. Sky UK have the same ability as Italia and a new issue of cards [now on the horizon] could and most probably will signal the end---until the next time.
Answer---motorise your system and watch the world .

General consensus on a few forums is that the old Thomson boxes will not, or ever, work with the encryption sky wish to use on the new cards. Until all the old boxes are out of circulation I'm not too concerned, but clearly we will all soon find out where we stand once these cards hit the streets!

Iv heard a rumour over the last few days that sky are about to encrypt there SD channels. Now i know we hear it all the time but has anybody else got any info of late? I know sky are rewarding some customers with a new HD box it says in the advert that selected customers boxes will no longer receive signal from 31/12/16 and they are offering a free replacement HD box that has a larger memory for more recording capacity and also new features. Is this the start of them replacing there boxes as to which new encryption or is it just a genuine reward to loyal customers?
