Skybox F3 F4 F5 - Channel Editing for yourself - Tutorial

After days of exhaustingly searching the net I finally found the answer.
Rather than you having to endure the headaches I did I thought it best to share it in one place and try to explain it in layman's terms so I can understand it as I am writing it lol.

You will notice that you have a file called TP_PROG.abs this is the first thing that you will need to alter. The file extension will need to be changed from .abs to .dbs.
This may sound complicated to the noob (it was to me and I have only been learning over the last few day (yes I'm a Noob also lol) simply right click on the TP_PROG.abs file and rename it to TP_PROG.dbs and save it to your desktop, that is the first part done.

The second part is a little more complicated as there is some messing about involved...however the guys+girls on this sight might be able to help out or point you in the right direction. The list of the program and file you will need are as follows

1. Setedit HD100 full 2.Setedit HD100 full .lic file (if your lucky enough (which I was not) you may find them in the same folder

First Setedit needs to be installed...DO NOT RUN PROGRAM. There is quite possibly a .lic or file in the downloaded file where you installed the program from. if there is select it by left clicking after it is selected right click and go to copy. You will now need to go to your programs install folder which should be found at "Computer" "Local Disc (C:)" "Program Files (or Program Files( x86)" (check both...I did lol) then open the folder named "SetEditHD100" Right click (or ctrl V) to paste. Now as far as I can remember that is how I done it.

Now you simply open up Setedit HD100 and you can get to work so click file and go to open. A new box will open, Where the drop-down arrow is click on it and use the bar at the side to scroll up to desktop and click on it. Now simply select the TP_PROG.dbs file and open it up. All your channel and radio listings will be accessed. after you have played about and deleted or added channels, edited names and favourite lists etc. (to add channels websites can be accessed that will provide the information you need) save and exit.

Go back to the desktop and find your TP_PROG.dbs and rename it to TP_PROG.abs (using the same method as above) and that's it.

I changed the title and moved it to the skybox forum. You will get allot more commenting on this thread if the title is more relative to the subject.

Thanks for your guide.

I get an "error loading file" when I load the abs (dumped from f5s) with the program you provided. I guess its because its version is pretty old. Your copy is v1.14 and now there's 1.43.
The abs file opens without problem with ver 1.43 but I can't find a registered version of 1.43 anywhere. I searched the net yesterday for hours and nothing.. :(

yeah of course. it still gives the same error. Maybe this ver can't work with f5s. On the unregistered 1.43 it loads fine.

can you provide a contact email and then possibly send me the file you are trying to alter or I send either the link to the software I have etc

Hi, did you find the reason why dreamie was getting an error message as I've the same problem?

cheers
loopie

As I wrote the error is because its an old ver of setEdit v1.13, on Ver 1.43 it works fine but there's no crack available anywhere.
I also found ver 1.26 and it gives the same error.

He sent me in pvt a file with the same setEdit 1.13 and an editing tool, you can find the editing tool in the skybox site too - SkyBox | SkyBox

I read about this method in another forum, you use the editing tool to export a udf file, load it in the old setedit and edit your channels, then load the udf back in the editing tool but save it as dbs file. I already tried that before posting here but somehow after I imported the edited file from the usb none of the channels worked. they were arranged fine but something got screwed up and the only way to fix that was to reset factory.. Eventually I arranged the channels manually from the remote. I just want to change the order so I'll give it another shot if I find the time this weekend.

Thanks for the tutorial. However I found that you can edit .dbs files with PVR800-Editor_dbs, I've uploaded it here,

1) Run PVR800-Editor_dbs
2) Click Open, ensure that the file type is *.dbs so these files will show in explorer, and then navigate to the .dbs file and load.
3) Click Default Data Base.

You can move and rename channels in the full channel list or on your favourites lists using the box. Menu>Channel Edit then press red button to select Full Channel List or a particular favourite list then select the channel(s) to edit and select the "Up/down arrows" or "Pencil" on the right hand side to move or rename. To rename your favourites lists go to Menu>Favourites Edit and use the yellow button to rename.

I already tested just now, i want to open TP_PROG.dbs, but it show error loading file.
i change the extension to .abs, also same things happen.

Which programme is the best? I want to regionalise my channels as the bbc and itv I get are from London and I'm based West of Scotland
