Skybox F3 on/off power options

I've just got my F3 working, it's going fine without any problems. Have done the Line and TP_Prog update with no issues. So now I would really like to know the best way of using the F3 on a daily basis (we mostly use it evenings only). Should I be leaving the box on 24/7, turning it off on the remote power button without touching the back switch, or using the on/off switch at the rear? Not knowing the F3 I don't want to burn it out by having it constantly on, or by repeated power ups if this could cause a problem. Any advice is welcome as the manual is a bit lacking.

switch off at the back with switch when not in use for long periods ie at night. the powerboards sometimes overheat and pop a cap on f3s

Thanks for the info on the board, I don't like leaving electricals on 24/7 so will turn off overnight. Is the overheat issue worth using an external fan in ordinary use? I was thinking along the lines of using a PC's case fan or similar, or is it overkill and not worth the bother?

no it just pops a cap about £1.50 for 10 if you are good at soldering or you can buy a new power board for £8-£15 but not all go i think maybe a certain batch. they do get quite hot a fan would help although i have not bothered. and keep it out of enclosed spaces tv cabinets. the f5s dont have same problem as they use plug in power pack.

Will keep F3 in open air and will probably setup a fan as it's easy enough to do, so thanks for that. The 'pops a cap' thing sounds interesting, so I'll do a bit of googling to learn more.

capicitor you will know if it pops they stink and box will go off but as i said very few do it compared to how many have been sold. i see the new f6 has gone back to the built in power board again.

Thanks for the info. I've noticed that my F3 doesn't power off from the remote or from the button on the front of the box, in both cases the f3 will go into a reboot. There is no problem on the reboot and also it doesn't matter much as I turn off the switch at the back. Is this peculiar to my box?

100% right sb18180, my mistake, I've been too heavy handed on the remote and have passed by the standby. Probably because there is a slight delay from pressing the power button to something happening on the F3. Today I gave the power button a very brief touch and a couple of seconds later standby is what happened. Thanks for putting me right
