Skybox f5 multi lnb setup and Gift Question

Newbie
I am buying a skyboxf5 and just wanted to ask a few questions. I currently have a multi lnb setup on a dish with the 28.2E, 19.2E and 13E aligned connected via diseqc switch. my first question is that will the skybox f5 be able to support my setup. My second question is that if I was to get a line in (i.e cccam etc) will that be able to unscramble on all sats or can only 1 sat's channels be unscrambled. Thanks

The Skyboxes/openboxes support DiSEqC 1.0 & 1.1, so they will work perfectly with 3 LNB's. I currently have 19.2e & 28.2e set up on mine.

Most people are only interested in 28.2e, so that is what most clines are set up for. There's no reason why you cannot add other clines for other sats though.

The F5 will work with your set up you will have to look for a line that offers those satellites most just offer 28.2e package but look around there are lots about with the European package.

Thanks kremmen & marhkpat cant thank you guys enough. So the f5 skybox will just pick up the sats I have already got automatically or at worst I will have to change it diseqc settings? With regards to clines, I keep getting confused as it seems clines, servers, nlines, ccccam are all sort of the same thing. Ideally what I want is to test the ability of the f5 to get the scrambled channels 1st and then maybe happily pay for that privilege if convinced right choice. Any guidance on understanding choices out there will be greatly appreciated

The F5 will have an Antenna setup section in the menu to setup the DiSEqC settings. Just select the satellite, then select the corresponding port setting for that LNB in the DiSEqC1.0 settings.

You can ask in this thread for a line, perhaps some will give you a test line first if you ask:-

You could also ask if anyone does a line for 19.2e or 13e.

C lines & n lines do the same thing. They are inserted into the CCcam on your box & connect to a server.

Thanks Kremmen very much appreciated. things are a lot clearer now. So if I have not misunderstood your post. the antenna setup will give me an option to select each satellite and select the port they are connected to, e.g astra 2 & port A etc!!!! With the ccCam part you have made it so clear in that little & simple explanation. my next question is around the ccCam. Does this normally come with the box and if not, do you get them from the same sources you get the clines and nlines. Sorry if that's a daft question, I don't have the box yet. I have just ordered it so cant verify physically.

You can go to any server for a line.

Most just do Sky as it's the most popular,

If you get a European line, the Diseqc will switch
between the sats for you.

have a look here, post a request for a line in the link
Kremmen gave you

That's correct about the satellite & port. It's as simple as that. My DiSEqC is labeled LNB1, LNB2 etc. so it's simple to select the corresponding setup in the DiSEqc menu.

The CCcam is already in the firmware.

Thanks again guys, awaiting delivery of the skybox f5, hopefully it will turn up tomorrow. I am as excited as a kid the night before a trip to Disney. I was wondering today if it will be possible for me to remove the 320Gb SATA Hard Drive in my current sat receiver (an annoyingly rubbish Ross HD+ 8610 kit that I picked up from B&Q) and attach it by USB to the skybox f5? A quick look online shows that there are some converters that may be able to do the job? Is this possible and has anyone done anything similar. Thanks

Thanks kremmen, your last post jogged my memory and i remember that i have a laptop Hard Drive laying around somewhere. it looks like its a 2.5 inch (i.e about the width of a iphone). i will place an order for one of these and hope it does the job. i am picking up the F5 box tomorrow from local royal mail depot and will let you know how i get on setting the box up.

Thanks to everyone that has helped with this so far. I picked up my f5 on Wednesday and I have to say I have been very impressed. initially I didn't like the look of the box it came in and the manual (they didn't look of good quality and I feared box I bought may be a cheap imitation). However I have plugged box in and setting up was very easy. following some of the advice above, all I had to do to get all my 3 sats was go to the sat list and edit the corresponding sats that I had. changing the diseqc ports was easy and scanning for channels was smooth. I have had 2 test lines so far, 1 came with a higher quoted price for sub but I had only a couple of hours so difficult to judge quality. Through a recommendation here I got a another testline which I am using now and I am expressing a high level of freezing on the premium channel like bt sports and skysports even though this line is only 1 so far that has the uk and other sats. the provider did say that I should use cccam version 2.0.11 for better performance. question is how do I check my cccam version please? or upgrade it for that matter? Thanks again guys

Hi,

Ive just tried connecting my F5s to 28.8 and 19.2 using 2 LNBs and DisEqc but im having trouble with some channels on 28.8. I get no signal but if i cover up the LNB for 19.2, everything is ok.. any suggestions??

Thanks

The CCcam is part of the firmware, so, AFAIK, there is no way to upgrade that part only.

That's odd. The 19.2e LNB should be disconnected by the DiSEqC switch when watching a channel on 28.2e. Perhaps that port isn't switching properly.

Have you tried connecting the LNB's to different ports on the DiSEqC switch?

Blazey25,

I was wondering how you're getting along with your F5 now that you've had it a few months? I'm interested because I'm in exactly the same situation?

While I'm here could someone please clarify the situation regarding c-lines. I've seen some websites quoting a price for a package with 3 c-lines and some for 5 c-lines. Does that translate to being able to decode 3 or 5 channels from their package of available channels?

Thanks and regards.
