Skybox F5S remote control problem - not working initially - fix

I have just purchased a skybox f5s that appears to be working Friday 13th December 2013!!
However the remote did not work initially no flashing lamp on remote
I put 2 new AAA batteries in it
I changed the batteries
still didn't work
problem appeared to be that the positive end of the batteries were not making contact with the squirly whirly metal contact in the battery compartment
With a very small watchmakers screwdriver I gently eased the squirly whirly bits forward on both positive ends in the battery compartment NOT THE NEGATIVE END
I replaced the batteries
BINGO lamp on the remote flashes - remote now works!!

For a quick remote control check..Point the remote at the camera on your camera phone and press the buttons and it will light up if working...!
 
sometimes the protrusion from the+ve on the battery is shorter on some brands....i've seen that in lots of other devices

think you are spot on stigie - i spoke to the dealer i bought mine from - he says he's tearing his hair out had over 80% complaints
having said that for less than £50 the F5S is a bargain

The red light is flashing on the remote so I presume the remote is ok, but no functions on it work when I point it at the F3S box. it doesn't power off the box, or turn up the volume, or go to favorites, no function works - any ideas?
