hi all was wondering if anyone could give me some info on ssd.was looking at them and going to put one into my laptop, but would prefer some info before i do it ,any help would be much appreciated thanks in advance

If you do put one in your laptop you will not regret it. I was amazed at the start up speed.
Most come with software to allow an image of your original drive to copy onto your new SSD.

Give people a bit of info yourself, explain what you are trying to achieve, what budget you have, what type laptop, what size HDD you are looking at, it gives you a better chance of getting an answer that is correct for your circumstances

As a general answer: SSD's are then next gen in hard drives. They don't store data the same way as the older drives and have a longer lifetime than standard drives. You will see a speed improvement, faster bootup on windows but if your laptop is older I can't see it making much of a difference day to day.

if you can provide more info on what you want to do, what laptop you have and what your looking to spend you might get a more detailed answer

if you did the pros would be faster boot time, SSD's use less power so should improve battery life, but it wont run games smoother, load websites faster either and depending on what you spent you would get less storage as I don't think your current HDD is 500mb, more like 500 GB but SSD's are more expensive at that size, around the £120 for a low cost 500GB

Its upto you as its your cash but have considered adding more system memory, cheaper option that should give your laptop a boost at less expence

Replace it with SSD. Then get a caddy to use your old drive as external storage.

Had a quick look at the spec, 6GB ram, core I7, not bad gpu, and a 500GB 7200 HDD at the moment, so not a bad laptop, not too old and maybee worth the cash to upgrade, the swap should be simple harware wise, you could use clone software too like clonezilla.

An SSD would give better read/write speeds leading to faster boot and loading times as Blackwidow said. At the moment there are lots of SSD deals about, should be able to get one for around £90 check hotukdeals etc.

had a look in pc world today going to get 1 but i will get better deal online and they only had 250gb want 500 cheers bullhurly for reply

Does your laptop have a disc drive? You could pull that out and swap the hdd to there with a caddy and put a small ssd in just for os for quicker boot and shutdown

You can get a 480GB of Amazon for £90, its 20gb less than what you want but about £20 cheaper, lol
