SportKa battery problem turns into dead speedo?

My SportKa (07) had been sounding slow to turn over in the morning then yesterday I just had the solenoid clicking when I turned the key. I put the battery on charge (started OK), left it off charge in the night, and it was weak again by morning, so a replacement battery seemed worth a try.

I fitted it easily enough, no flashes, bangs, or noticeable blunders, all seemed well, drove my usual commute but after a few miles realised the speedo was dead (not sure if it was working when I set off or not). I have a cheap code reader so plugged it in and no DTC codes showed, so tried the trip diagnostics. No codes again, but no movement on the speedo during the gauge test. The other instruments went to max, but didn't come down (aren't they meant to?) until the key is back to position 0.

I've checked fuses 3 & 17 but now I'm stumped and facing an MoT next week.

Any ideas would be very welcome!

Cheers,

Steve
