What's new

Starview 1 - seems to power reset and screen freezes?

I've have a Starview 1 box that on power on, within 10-15 seconds or so shows '0' for 5 seconds or so and then powers off and then powers on again, and the TV screen freezes, and them does it all again. I'm in the South West and a VM user.

I've tried relaoding the f/w, existing f/w has worked for ages - but I've only just realised from this forum that I had a clone, and have reloaded correct f/w. However this had made no difference. I've tried all the usual stuff, i.e. factory reset and removing the cable splitter.

I've seen some reference to Nagra 3 - but not sure if it's this causing the problem.

Can anyone help please!!
Regards,

PS: Only want to go for a new box (e.g. Starview HD) if absolutely necessary and with some confidence that it will work.

Personally i wouldnt purchase another box at all. Your on the edge of Nagra 3 if your area is not already changed over to Nagra 3.

Which area are you from exactly?

I've done abit of research for you and i found that replacing a capacitor in the Starview will do the trick, but this is just theory coming from me - cant confirm if this will work. You shouldn't have to Jtag the box as it is not fully dead.

I'll wait for someone to come along and clear this for you. Don't lose hope. :)

Thanks to Martin F For the image & info.

1 power off remove c21
2 power back up you will here the board hum wait while it says on
3 turn back of
4 replace c11
5 replace c21 (the existing)
6 done
just make sure you put the caps in the right way theres a + and _
it does say on my photo c11 10v most of them are but when i did mine it was a 16v
if your is a 16v you can get one from maplins 50p
hope this helps

Thanks very much chaps for such a swift response! I'll be off down to Maplin's in the next day or so and will give it a whirl.

Also much obliged for the advice re HD box - I was on the brink of forking out a couple of hundred quid - but will hold fire (in the Bristol area by the way).

Off out on the piste now!!!

Dangerous and Noelyf,
