Taking statins

Hi
Just like to ask has or anyone took statins .I am asking as I have just had my health mot and my cholesterol was high and something wrong with blood platelets .not as they should be
the nurse said my chance of a heart attack or stroke was 15 percent in the next 10 years so statins would help
What do all think.rather ask real people than look on Google

By the way I am not overweight .run 25 miles a week .have a varied diet and I like a pint

I take statins for cholesterol with been diabetic and I also like a pint or 6 lol had no side effects but I take mine as I’m going to bed 1 a day and 40mg tablets
 
I use statins every day, as willo says some brands make joints and muscles ache , after 3 or 4 different brands i found one with no side effects for me ''Atorvastatin'' 80mg

My experience , is nearly identical to that of

was on Simvastatin 20 mg ... take one at night and after about 3 months
I had so much pain while putting on my socks or tying my laces
Stopped them and can move a lot easier now .
Think my chemist changed the brand as usually happens every so often
with all my tablets ,, Still off them and enjoying the mornings much more now.
Maybe worth a try to see how it goes

Been taking em for years , I first came across them in the states . A pal of mine over there , his doctor prescribed em and the doc was of the opinion that everybody over 50yr old should be taking them. I know the yanks are infatuated with drugs but my pal is right when he says the yanks are pro active with personal health care whereas us brits are reactive , we only look for help when we are ill.
Went to see my doc on return from the trip and he was a big fan of em as well , been taking em now for about 8 years.
No issues at all. Same with omeprazol , came across those over there when suffering bad heartburn , which I had endured for months. They are available over the counter in chemists in the states. My doc prescribed em when I got back , one tablet a day , have never had heartburn since.
 
Update
doctor called me and advised I go on 20 mg atorvastatatin I will update after a few months taking them
 
after i had a heart event , i was put on them, tried them all,( brands , varieties ) in pill form all gave me different side effects over three years,
eventually ( after meeting certain criteria) was referred to a specialist unit and put on a trial , self injection every two weeks ( like a eppy pen), been on that 3 years now no side effects in that time ,
when i started it was costing the NHS £ 1000 a month for the pens (2)!
