Transfer of recordings

Not sure if I am posting in the correct area if not I apologise in advance.
I have an H2s with a Hdd connected via rear usb port.
If I try to move a recording off the Hdd onto a memory stick plugged into the front port the gets changed somehow in the process so it becomes an empty file.
Recording plays perfect on the Hdd just gets altered if moved.
Strange thing is if I download a programme or film from say IPTV Player as opposed to recording it there is no problem moving it to a stick all is ok.
Any ideas gratefully received.

If you have a computer on the same network, try using Filezilla to transfer recordings by FTP. You could also use Filezilla to put movies onto the Zgemma hdd.

Make sure you haven't been to eager in looking at drive in front port, it's a slow process of transferring a movie file

Thanks for the reply, Have been formatting the stick to Fat 32 before putting it in the box. But still no joy, yet downloaded items work fine ?

Thanks for your reply ,
That is an option , But would like to sort the reason why the " Move " option changes the file on recorded items but not on downloaded items.

Thanks for your reply,
When I choose the " Move " option it appears to go to the stick instantly Should I wait to get a completed message ?
Downloaded files move off the Hdd to the stick with no problem its just recorded files which get changed so cant be played.
Another thing is that one file always gets onto the stick but with audio only no picture just the sound.

FAT 32 should work on the USB even if the HDD is formatted with a different file system. As for the empty file, it sounds like you've not given the STB enough time to transfer the file. Once you choose to copy it, the file will show on your USB but you need to give it time to complete. Never used a Zgemma so couldn't tell you if there is a progress bar or not when transferring the files I am afraid. As has been stated in post #3, why not use a FTP programme to transfer your files?

Thanks for your reply,
Have given it time and still get 2 files of the same recording 1 is audio only , the other is a Meta file which wont open or do anything.
Seems the transfer alters things.
Why I am reluctant to use Filezilla is because the Zgemma has an option to move files almost at the touch of a button (downloaded files work perfectly)

But with Filezilla got to start the computer up and mess about , also I just want know what I am doing wrong .

What are you using to play the file? As you can get audio but no video I would suggest the file has copied correctly and it's a codec issue on whatever your using to play the file.

Only one file is audio only the rest are empty nothing to play at all, All files play ok while still on the HDD connected to the box problems start if I transfer a file from HDD to usb and play on computer or tv in another room.
If the file has been downloaded as opposed to recorded everythings ok.

Did you read the reply above. Post #8?

There are about 6 files associated with a recording, are you moving all of them? The .ts file is the actual recording.

Yes did read your reply and thanks . If as you say it may be a codec issue how can I resolve that ?

Thanks for your reply, there are no separate files at the point of clicking on "move" Just the title of the film .
After moving the recording then it shows individual files, perhaps its not moving the ts file ?
If that's the case can you tell what needs to be done please.

VLC player should plsy all common movie file types. It is free to download and comes complete with all associated codecs.

I've used VLC once or twice but never really liked it to be fair.

These are the files associated with all recordings.
Enigma2 requires them all for the following reasons:

*.ts
file with the DVB Transport Stream, the actual recording
*.eit
file with the EPG info and audio channels info
*.ts.ap
video cut file, for the cut plugin
*.ts.meta
meta info, used for the display of the movie list
*.ts.cuts
stores the last position where the movie was stopped while playing
*.ts.sc
file with info for cutting the movie with the MovieCut plugin.
This file stores information about the recorded movie.
E.g. it includes the cut positions for the MovieCut plugin, or structure info about the .ts files for improved fast forward/rewind.
This file is mandatory, without it the movie cannot be played without problems.

The .ts file can be moved on it's own to another device such as a PC.
Just rename the .ts extension to .mpg and it should play on most external players.

Zgemma has an option to move files almost at the touch of a button

It may seem fast using the file list 'move' option but it is actually moving it behind the scenes. It takes just as long as moving with FTP.
