Trying to use a router as a wifi repeater?

Hi guys I have virgin broadband and it got installed in the corner of my property, I do have another netgear router I have the two connected via ethernet, not in WAN port. When I input router IP into search bar though brings up the virgin hub and not the netgear, when I try to connect to the netgear settings I get this message...

You are not connected to your Router’s WiFi network.

Can anyone think where I am going wrong, I have ethernet connect from netgear router to my PC?

what netgear do you have.?
do you have it connected to incoming via cable or not,?
some routers/modems can be configured, others not

you will have to disable DCHP on second box, and do various other things, all of which shoukld be doable depending on your router
