Two bodies discovered in search for missing children

Gardaí investigating the disappearance of two children have discovered two bodies at the site of a car crash in Co Mayo this afternoon.

The crash occurred at Clooneen, Rosbeg outside of Westport just before 4pm.

Scene has been preserved for a forensic examination


The bodies are believed to be those of ten-year-old Eoghan and five-year-old Ruairi, who were reported missing at 1.30am after they left the family home in Ballinkillen, Co Carlow yesterday evening with their father Sanjeev Chada.

Gardaí do not believe the children died from injuries received in the crash.

The driver of the car has been taken to hospital, however he is not thought to be seriously injured.

The scene has been preserved for a forensic examination and the State Pathologist's office has has been notified.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the crash or observed a dark green Ford Focus 06 CW 238 between 6.30pm yesterday and 4pm this afternoon to contact Westport Garda Station on 098 50230.

Gardaí had earlier issued a Child Rescue Ireland alert seeking the public's help in finding the children.

Mr Chada and his sons had left their home to go the Dome Bowling Centre in Carlow town.

Local parish priest Fr Declan Foley said the children's mother Kathleen was devastated by what had happened.
