Two held after €1.1m of cheques robbed in Dublin

Two men in their 20s have been arrested after cheques worth €1.1m were taken during an armed robbery in Dublin.

A man was about to lodge a quantity of documents and cheques at a bank night safe on Main Street, Tallaght, shortly before midnight, when he was approached by two men.

One was armed with what appeared to be a firearm and the other carried a hammer.

They forced the victim to hand over the document bag and fled.

Gardaí carried out a search of the area.

Two men were arrested and the bag and contents were recovered.

The two men, who have local addresses, are being detained at Tallaght and Rathfarnham garda stations.
