I know I'm in Ireland, but I listen to some political podcasts from UK, they've been spouting on about there being local elections all over the UK.
over here (and I always assumed UK was the same) local elections are on the same day countrywide.
They kind of do. There’s normally 3 councillors per seat and the maximum term is 4 years I think. So one seat/councillor up for election in years 1,2, and 3. (That’s why they say a third of the council is standing). In year 4, there’s no elections as no seats up for grabs.
But the start of the four year cycle isn’t the same for all councils (I think). Plus, every now and again, they put all seats up for election to have some fun.
On top of that you also have things like mayoral elections and police commissioner and a vote for who should be the official town dog. This crap only happens in some areas.
