Ive recently bought an asus rt ac68u router with the intention of running a vpn on it. my isp is vm and i have a superhub 3. i cannot seem to get the asus connected, furthermore i cant even open the set up page of the new router. im getting an error message when i search the ip in the search bar. i put the superhub into modem mode and tried to connect the asus and still no luck. im sure im missing a step so any help would be appreciated

Have you put the Asus into router only mode, turned off modem side and turned off DHCP,?
It's sometimes easier to plug it into your pc first and change settings direct, and then plug it into your modem once you have turned off DHCP

I can't access the router settings for some reason. I'm not sure how I would do this lol I have a vermin connection so how could I connect the new router

Plug the LAN of the new router direct into your pc ethernet port,
Then in address bar of your search engine type in the router IP address,
Currently your VM router and your Asus are both trying to issue you with an IP address, you have to turn that off on your Asus.

Also, go into your VM router and start DHCP addressing at 10 or something, then give your Asus a fixed ip of between 2&9

What IP are you typing in? It has to have the 1 in it, if VM is in modem mode. Type this in 192.168.1.1

I have the same router as you, also on VM, the login for the ASUS is as the one below (have to say I didn't have any probs setting it up..)

Could it be the way you have it connected up ?
my ethernet cable comes from the VM router connector closest to the incoming signal (F-plug?) - then goes to the blue ethernet connector on the ASUS

I've tried plugging directly to laptop and types the ip in but still didn't work. I downloaded the Asus app in my phone. I managed to begin to set up the router but still couldn't connect to the internet. When it asks for security key which do I enter a new one or one from the router or one from the vm router

What security key? you could all ways once it's plugged into the router/lap top give your network adaptor a static IP address of 192.168.1.5 and then see if you can get too 192.168.1.1

How did you set yours up? Did you put your VM router into modem mode first? When I type the IP in it doesn't work

It has been a couple of years, so I cant remember !! (definitely VM into modem mode first)

Have you tried 'clicking' on the link I put in my first post? (if I do it, the Asus modem page opens up )

here it is again

I bought it from eBay but it was new.

If was new you should have got an instruction book and dvd with it. If youdid not receive those items I can send you a copy of dvd.

Configuration for ASUS RT-AC68U. Open a web browser and enter http://192.168.1.1, http://192.168.0.1, http://192.168.0.2, or http://10.0.0.1 depending on the individual configuration. The default username is "admin" and the default password is "admin".

You will have to disable the wifi on VM router to avoid conflicting with asus wifi.

I've sorted it now. I reset the Asus, put the VM hub into modem mode. Left the hub for a while then plugged the router directly into the laptop. Im sure it wasnt working before because I had something else connected to the hub still. Thanks for the help
