first of all, it makes up directories, which is fine, but i can delete what is in the directory but not the directory, and it seems to be recording everything on whatever channel is on, eg i had it on a kids channel this morning now it has downloaded all the programs it has shown today, so now i have all these directories as well, weird, help

Sounds like you may have started an indefinite recording. Press the record button on the remote and look to see if there's a stop recording option.
