Which satellite box to get and why?

I am new to satellite systems but have a knowledge of computer coding so wouldn't be daunted in a complex build.

So the question is what is a good simple box to start with?
And what is a great box that is more advanced for the future?

I have the zgemma star 2s and the H2s both are very capable and pretty cheap, the H2s has much smoother function worth the extra £15 or so, wooshbuild v5 makes the process incredibly simple to get up and running.

I have the h2s it's a good box. But I am going to get the h2h as this will allow you to have both virginnne and sly as a fox. As the h2s won't give you hd but the h2h will on virginnne.

I have 3 zgemmah2s Hoewever I may look at the Edison range next as they do look like a quality build. The ones that a lot rave about is the VU range. Pricy but nice bit of kit. Depends what you want? However if you want the sly packages the LINE is and can be the issues on enjoyment I would recommend OSCAM with a couple of N Line. (Saved me from a lot of nagging lol )

If your after a twin tunners watch one channel record another go for h2s ( your need an external drive to record on tho) if just want one feed go for zgemma h.s

There is a box guide on the forum that will help you but in basic terms: cheaper end under £100 & work well are the Zgemma's & Edision makes, the top end are VU+ at £300+ & are very very good, there are several other makes inbetween & most makes do boxes for sly &/or cable. The cheaper end boxes are not that far behind the higher end boxes other than in specification & price so it depends on how many tuners & tuner type you need, IF you want the box to have the look & feel of sly or virmin then it must be an 'enigma2' based box to use the skins available.

Im also new to this in some ways as I have been using a slyboxf5 for the last two years that just came set up and ready to go. Since then I have learned a few bits and pieces but mainly just what I needed to update channels etc. I have 240mb Vergin cable and a sat dish with a stable line provider, but I was thinking of upgrading my slybox and have no clue as to what some of the stuff posters are talking about. Basically I just want a box that will have a better EPG and allow me record while looking at other channels. It appears that the Zgemma may do that .... but it also has enigma2 on it, sorry for my ignorance but am I right in thinking that Enigma2 is a system that will allow me have some way of watching internet streams on my TV ? (l use 123M's a lot on my PC).

The guide to boxes is helpful, but Im still not sure if I have the hang of this yet and I dont want to buy a box that wont work off my current set up (provider gave me CCam set up files and I have them on a usb). Am I right in thinking I can buy a new box and it will work off my CC usb settings ?

Again, sorry for asking dumb questions but Im only slowly catching up on modern tech.

No don't appologise questions are what people want to read.
Right I see you have a vm cable would you like a box that uses that and show channels in HD if yes your be looking at something like the zgemma h2h which can use cable and sat. But your need to add and no vm sub to the box aswell as your sly one

You said you want to add ccam by usb your going to have to get a box and download open atv wooshbuild as far it's I know it best use for plugins which allow you to add via USB stick where as open vix platform doesn't allow

I wouldn't use iptv via these boxes tho as it seems to slow them down for that your best using an android box or if your TV has iptv app built in

Hope I've helped a little

depends on your budget... vu+ brand box`s if you have a bit to spend and then zgemma h2s if your on a budget would be my choice

If you have a coding background like me you wont find it a problem to setup an E2 box, and I will recommend that's what you get.

Spending more money on a box will in the most part just get you a more powerful spec'd box but running the same image/firmware, so wont be any different to setup.

You can however buy cheaper alternatives
An Openbox for example uns on closed source, doesn't really need much setting up but will enable you to watch premium channels, there is a very basic epg and no frills but they are cheap at around £35

If you have VM broadband scrap sat altogether and get a twin cable tuner

Something like, will do all you want, good EPG and record one and watch another.

Vu+ Solo SE V2 Twin Tuner DVB-C/T/T2 Cable

Once you have your HD channels back you won't watch the sat SD channels again.

As for internet streams non of the boxes out there are great so if you need them something like an MXq box or firestick will sort you out.

I have that box that bees suggested and I highly recommend it.
I have also recommended it to three people who are made up with it having moved from the h2h.
My sat cables have been directed to my lads room as bees said Sd is grainy once you have HD back.

Thanks everyone, if I was to go with the Vu+ cable box ..... will my cc line still work the same way and decode the cable channels ?

Scoob197 ... I have no clue about coding, plug n play is my level and anything else is worked out off youtube.

So I am a bit confused by this. I thought the HD option was not possible from a dish with cline/nline as sly has them scrambled. How does this VU+ box give you HD?

FULL HD is only possible via Virmin media BB, Bees did start by saying 'IF you have VM broadband'
sat dish will only give SD with a few HD channels

The whole system works the same way but a sat line only works on sat boxes
so you will have to pay for a line from a cable server.

If you go down the cable route there are guides on here and plenty of help if you get stuck

Just think about them nice clear HD channels, miles better than sat lol

Just noticed !!

How lucky is that !!

dillyp70 posted a back up image for the VU here

Makes setting up nice and easy
