Will an iPad boot without glass?

Hi.

Simple question. I have an iPad mini 2 that someone had removed the glass but left the actual connector still plugged in to the logic board. The iPad rebooted itself a number of times and then displayed the home screen.
I've disconnected the connector from the logic board but now all it does is display the Apple logo and go black over and over.
Is it just a coincidence with the logic board connector or will the ipad not boot when there's no glass digitiser connected? The mini appears to have had some fizzy drink spilled on it.
Just wanting to know before I waste time and money on it.

Thanks.
