Windows 10 Windows 10 start menu not working

Having allowed windows 10 to update, i'm now having the issue of the home button/start menu not working. I've tried most of the fixes on the net. Does anyone have another way to fix this other than a re-install?

Not exactly a fix, but here is Classic Shell a simple start menu for Windows 8, fully compatable with Windows 10:

there are several fixes for this,none of which ive used.ultimately you can reinstall win10.you will keep your files but your installed programs will be lost (although i did it once and my programs stayed).the problem is caused by an update by the way.here is a link with some other fixes.

I created a new desktop with a new password and this worked for me.The only way I could do anything with the faulty W10 desktop was by R clicking the start button but this was limited.The new desktop worked perfectly

Some people say Avast anti-virus causes issues like this. If you have it, try uninstalling it and restarting and see if that fixes your problem.
