ZGemma H2.S Wooshbuild problem initializing USB drive

I've flashed BaseBuild to my new H2S. I inserted a 16GB Sandisk in the rear port as a main drive and initialized it. Progress got to 99/100 "Mounting drive" and then it timed out.

The same thing happened with another Sandisk 16GB and a Kingston 32GB. It finally worked on a Sandisk 64GB.

1) Any idea what's causing this?

2) If I can, I'd like to manually format one of the 16GB, as I want to use the 64GB for a different project. Alternatively I have 16 and 32GB microSD cards. I have a Linux PC and so I can format to Ext4 and Swap. The Wooshbuild instructions say 256MB of swap, and presumably the rest is Ext4. Does the swap partition come first, last or either?

I always format everything on PC, the H2S seems to struggle with some drives. Just format to ext4 and let the swap manager sort the swap out.
One tip I've found is that it's best to delete any existing partitions and create a new primary partition.
