Zgemma H5.2S Combo tuner - rebooting - very strange behaviour [SOLVED]

This was very strange.
I have a few of these and up until now they have all been quite happy with 64GB USB2 Sticks in the rear.
I thought put larger sticks in now they are so cheap
I bought some good make, Kingston 256GB. Tested them full read/write in a linux PC to check they were genuine and they were fine.

In the Zgemma H55.2S they kept randomly rebooting . I tried lower version of OpenATV and still the same problem. I couldn't believe 3 boxes would exhibit the same fault at same time.
I tried different size swap files, changing the record and timeshift settings to different folders

I purchased some 128GB USB2 largest I could find
and all boxes work fine

They even seem to work fine with a large USB3 drive in the front socket.

Has anyone else seen anything like this?

Other Zgemma pure satellite boxes work fine with USB in the rear socket.

I'm still looking for a combo tuner box that isn't a Zgemma that is reasonably priced and actually available to buy.
