Recover Dead Openbox Flash Using Serial RS232 Null modem Cable

Trying to reflash an Openbox S11 with RS232 female to female connection. I cant get past "Synch..STB's" "Please reset target". Have tried a number of combinations.

Any suggestions?

Made some progress I think - after "Sync...STB's" Done has now appeared, but now Im getting an error

Set stb memory error.

Again, any suggestions?

I've recently got a s6000hdse and I'm new to all this, was having problems with channels like sometimes working one day not the other so took it upon meself to do a software update.. Now nothing at all comes on the telly screen! Box is still on but nothing happening at all, anyone help with this??
 
Hi all. I recently bricked my dads openbox v5s as it became stuck on load after channel update. I bought a null modem to usb cable without a driver disc. Realised I needed the driver and finally found it after hours of frustration. Once I installed the driver I restarted my computer and then went to upgrade the box only to find the cable wasn't working. Again frustrated I hunted around on my PC and found the cable in my device manager, clicked on properties to find out that it was set to com 3 rather than com 1 which I had been inputting into my flashing program. As soon as I changed the com port to com 3 on flashing prog it worked. I felt very stupid for not realising it sooner but relieved as it sorted the box out. I thought I would share this with you all to save you hours of frustration.
 
Hi I have an open box f5s with e001, was advised to upgrade software from this site a website, however after following all the steps it still does not work, can anyone help please!

I went onto a website eopenbox downloaded the files to upgrade, pluged in rs232 followed the instructions to upgrade pressed next, attached openbox no power, turned power on and nothing. Box runs to LO93 then e001. The ports are the same the files fail to download to it. May the upgrade download tool not working, but I can not access it on another site.
 
Attach null modem cable to pc and box.
Open erom upgrade tool.{settings are usually already there]
Browse to file you wish to use.Open file and it will appear beneath upgrade. Tick bootloader.
Click next and new screen page will appear----power on box and the word "done" will appear at top right.
If com ports are correct then next screen for upgrade flash and burn will pop up---follow instructions to complete.
[If you get error message on second screen after power on then power off, click back and retry with different timings until it works]

Hi, thank you for your reply. I have followed all the above instructions I can get as far as power on the box and the word done does not appear! The only thing I can think is going wrong is I have an openbox v5s. On the erom tool its says for this type of box open erom upgrade, not erom upgrade exe. however there is no file in erom upgrade, so I have tried it on exe, would this make a difference? The com ports are the same on box and upgrade as I changed them. it does sync but I cant get no further. However when done does not appear and I cancel its says do you want to cancel download! I am lost with it all very complicating and frustrating! really appreciate your help
 
Can you make sure you downloaded the correct one for your box. If you have a skybox its f5s if openbox then its v5s. Which upgrade tool did you use? 8mflash or pvr800? I think I used 8mflash for mine
 
Natalie----you need to download the file first---don't use any file found with the tool.
Go to Skybox.cc and download.

What am i doing wrong??? No matter what i try i always get the "Wrong file!" error message on the first page! I have cable connected, box is off and it wont have it. Any advice?
 
thanks Kremmen, it now goes past that problem, now i have synchronising with STBs. So i plug my box back into the mains and nothing on my box turns on and the software sticks on syncronising. Should my box at least light up or something???

and as soon as i exit the setup, my box powers up on to the loading freeze screen
 
Hi there I was updating the channel list on my v5s and now it's stuck on load does this mean it is (bricked) if so is it easy enough to unbridled and does it has be a rs323 crossover lead many thanks
