Found 400 plants

Gardaí have seized an estimated €886,000 worth of cannabis following raids on two grow houses in Dublin.

Around 45kg of the drug, worth an estimated €550,000, was found in refuse sacks in a house in Clonsilla.

In another search, 400 cannabis plants with an estimated value of €240,000 were found growing in a house in Castlenock.

Gardaí also seized 8kg of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €96,000 in Castlenock.

Three rooms were converted in the grow house and sophisticated irrigation, lighting and ventilation systems had been installed.

A 53-year-old man was arrested and is being questioned at Blanchardtown Garda Station.

The raids are part of the Garda National Drugs Units' Operation Nitrogen set up two years ago to target Irish and Asian gangs involved in cultivating cannabis for sale here and abroad.
