Active cable line

If someone has previously had virgin tv or broadband, will a cable box work if they still have a white virgin box in the house?, is it just a matter of connecting a box to see if the line is still live and also you dont need a virgin router.

connect a box to it and try it.
It doesn't matter where the internet comes from, it doesn't have to be supplied by VM
