Thinking of putting my trusty zgemma star s2 in the kids bedroom and updating the to a Edision OS MINI 2x DVB-S/S2 or Zgemma HS2.
Zgemma seems to have much more software support on here and I like the iptv backup I a have on the S2.
Both similar priced Eddy has wifi and optical out.
Anyone has these boxes recommend them? Any pros and cons with these models.
which would you chose and why?
    cheers in advance

Software support for a box depends typically on which forum you're on.
Zgemma sponsors Techkings hence loads of posts on here but if you go to a world satellite forum you will see posts regarding the Edison.
Both boxes do similar thing when set up correctly . It then comes down to budget .
You can't go wrong with either but the Edison if purchased from the 'correct' place comes with a 2 year hardware warranty so extra piece of mind.
As far as extra cost you're looking at an extra 20 quid For the Edison over Zgemma but I have noticed that the cost of Zgemma boxes have steadily crept up in price with the new H5 box going for over £90 in places.

OpenViX support the Edision and it's got built in wifi and bluetooth. Nice box, I've got both.

Both are good, for the similar price I would probably go for the OS Mini. Same processor as the Vu Zero and wifi/bluetooth built in if needed. Remote also is a 4 in 1 that you can control stb/tv/dvd/vcr etc through it.I have had one with a Tuner B failure though which I've ever only had on an Amiko before, never had any tuner issues with Zgemma or Vu+, probably was just unlucky though.
  5. I've had the Edision OS Mini Twin Sat since Sept and it's been a solid box so far. I've never owned a ZGemma however IMO the reason you see more support for the ZGemma is because more support is required for it [emoji14]

Having owned a few zgemma's (2s, star s and a h2s) and now own 2 edision's in my opinion the h2s and os mini are both good boxes and speed wise perform equally, the 2s is now slow compared to other boxes on the market but if it's not bogged down with lots of extra plugins etc does perform fine to just watch satellite, I think you'll find that a lot of zgemma problems on here are not actual problems with the box it's a box that's a entry point and widely offered as a alternative to sly+ which are then bought by newbies who during the learning process naturally faff with the box and cause the problems them selves, I used my zgemma's with very little issue using patched openvix before vix stopped working with them, it all depends on what you want from the box if Bluetooth, built in wifi and official openivix vix support are not important to you then save a few quid and get a zgemma and whack open atv on it and you'll be good to go, if you want the above then the edision is a fine receiver for the extra £20 or so and I highly recommend it.

    Boxes are pretty similar
Depends on the image you prefer IMO
Vix does work on zgemmas but its a bit of a faff, much better off with OpenATV

I would say that the zgemma is not acutualy the most toublesome but has the most users on this site. Which like me were new to the setup etc. and do and will have more issues because of that. However I have looked at the Edison and will consider it when my son takes away one of my 3 zgemmah2s's away. Mainly so I can play with another box. But might play it safe and stick with the zgemma which itself has not given me any issues lol
