We bring good news and bad news for PlayStation 3-owners – Google has launched a new native YouTube app for the console, giving gamers the chance to rest their weary fingers and watch some cute kitten flicks instead.

While YouTube was previously available for PS3 through the browser (as are most websites), this is the first time a dedicated YouTube app has been made available for the console.

What’s the bad news, we hear you ask? Well, if you’re not based in the US of A, you’ll not be able to access this app for now which will be a big blow for the millions of users outside the States. However, Google says that it plans to launch the app in more countries “in the coming months”.

Given this is a native app, you’ll find the YouTube experience a whole lot more enjoyable, as it has been built for the big screen and for the PS3′s controls.

Key features include:

Search: Search suggestions and instant video results as you type
Subscribed channels: Sign in to find the latest videos from your YouTube subscriptions
Smartphone as a remote: You can pair and control YouTube on PS3 with a smartphone. Find a video on your phone and with a button it’ll play on the big screen. While the video is playing you can control it from your device

The new app is available to download from the PlayStation Store under ‘My Channels’.

I found this when I turned on the PS3 to watch a movie last night. Much better than the way it was before. :)
