Keane injured in Malahide training session

Robbie Keane suffered a knock in a Republic of Ireland training session in Malahide this morning, raising concerns over his availability for Saturday's Euro 2012 qualifying clash with FYR Macedonia.


Keane, captain of the Republic's team, went to ground after a Damien Delaney tackle in Gannon Park, with RTÉ's soccer correspondent Tony O'Donoghue saying it 'looked serious'.


It appeared that Keane had injured his ankle in the clash.


However, Ireland assistant manager Marco Tardelli told the press that Keane's groin had been injured.
Keane will travel to Skopje and will be assessed closer to the game.


Tardelli also confirmed that Darren O'Dea will partner John O'Shea in the centre of defence while West Brom's Simon Cox, who won his first cap in the win over Northern Ireland in the Nations Cup, will almost certainly partner Keane if he is fit.


German referee Florian Meyer is down to officiate the clash.

The latest news is that he is to start, apparently he was in good form after the flight (flying is bad for this type of injury?), starts alongside Cox??
