Missing DLL Files After System Restore

Take your time, consider carefully what you might need to backup. When you are fully satisfied that you have everything of importance backed up, check again, odds are you will have missed something. When you are totally satisfied (and there's still a good chance you've forgot something lol) Save yourself a whole lot of future pain and do a clean install (y)

You have the option to do a factory restore right?

ACER BACKUP DISC.jpgACER BACKUP MANAGER.jpgacer recovery.jpg

When i click all progs this is what comes up
I have copied everything on this pc Acer & DATA drives onto the external hard drive i can then delete what i feel is not needed at a later date!

Have not done anything as yet - was waiting to hear form you as to which i should do for the best ?? not brave enough to just go anything on my own back

First I would choose the option to make a driver disc just to be sure & put it away for safe keeping.

Then, If you are sure you have all you need backed up? go for a complete factory restore.

God knows what dll's are screwed up at this stage so you might as well start with a clean slate so to speak.

Of course the general rules apply here if you go with that, it will be as it came out of the box originally with warts and all (crap antivirus & trial crap). You will need to remove all that after the install. Remember too, get the removal tool for whatever Antivirus crap that came with it, don't rely on Add Remove Programs in the control panel ;)

Alternatively, you could do a real squeeky clean install altogether if you preferred (and that's where the driver disc might be needed).

That way you would avoid the need to decrapify all the trial crap :)

I can link you to the official MS media if you want to go that route but you will need to use your own key & possibly activate once done?

sounds like the best plan as i cannot remember what it actually came with! it probably came with norton crap! and i know it came with loads of games etc Key is on the label (assume thats the one)
ok so will do a disk for the drivers
thanks Gman x

A final thought Linny,

Are all your email accounts on-line or do you use anything like Outlook Express, Outlook, Windows Live Mail or any third party client to grab your mail?

If you do use any of these you will need to do some work to retain everything.

they are all on the virgin server, but yes use incredimail and have emailed my self ( on the other pc)all emails are set up on other machine although not all used, anything i had in the saved files :) Also seems when i tried to export my incredimail files there was a problem but have also deleted codes from this machine for purchases i made I never got round to purchaing incredimail plus -which backs up all your emails etc.

Have also now made a copy of the drivers and recovery disks ( just in case)

i have only deleted the incredimail files i needed so that they can be used again on that pc BUt do i also need to delete everything else on the pc before i got and reinstall
Once you give me the link to the ms media i take it i will need to copy to a disc so that i can then us that to reinstall windows? not done this for many yrs ( last time was with xp) so will need a how to of what to do to get to reinstall.

Looks like you are good to go so Linny.

Just to confirm, have you backed up you activation data as per my previous post?

What is the Windows version you have a key for, was it Home Premium 64bit?

Yes thats the one

Right, let's go!

Don't worry about your KEY if you are going to restore your backed up activation data after, Win 7 will allow you to install without a key, just proceed without one when asked.

Download the official Micros0ft Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit with SP1 ISO file HERE:

Download the latest version of ImgBurn HERE:

Install and use ImgBurn to burn a Windows DVD so you can use it to install Windows on your PC.

Insert a blank DVD disc into your burner.

Run the ImgBurn and choose the first option, "Write image file to disc". Click on the source yellow folder icon and point it to your Windows 7 image file (you just downloaded).

Click on the "Destination" drop down and point it to your blank DVD disc drive (It may already be selected).

Click on the Write Icon (picture of two discs with arrow in between) which should be highlighted now to start the burn process.

Once you have your new shinny Windows DVD,

Your machine BIOS needs to be set to boot from DVD\CD as first device & may be already set that way? or, you may have a boot F key on startup to choose which drive to start from (Depending on machine type)?

Either-way, once you are ready to say goodbye to everything remaining on your HDD lol It's time to reboot your system with the Windows DVD in the drive and follow the prompts to install Windows.

At some point it will ask you which drive you want to install to and offer to format it. I would format it to NTFS and let the process begin.

Look in "Computer" to see which drive(s) are installed on you system if more than one. Familiarize yourself with the drive size and free space so as you can easily identify the one you wish to install too later ;)
You could if you were anyway unsure, physically detach the drive data cable from all the drives except the OS drive before you start, that way you will only see one drive so no confusion lol

Have a read over this before you begin & holler if there's anything you require further clarification on.

Keep access to another PC so as you can come back here if you need any other advice during the process ;)

PS, as with all delicate procedures, there is always an element of risk :( so if we don't see you on the other side Linny, It was a pleasure knowing you virtually lol I'm only joking LOL

Off you go & the best of luck (y)

I have 2 drives Acer (c) DATA (d) both same size 458GB
Wont be detaching any cables as that would mean taknig machine apart as both drives are inside machine - any external drives ( or any other devices) have been removed other than keyboard/mouse

OK,

Disk 0 Partition 1: PQSERVICE: (This is the recovery partition put on by manufacture)

Disk 0 Partition 2: SYSTEM RESERVED (This is the new 100MB reserved by Windows 7, It's a new thing with 7 and will be recreated during a clean install)

Disk 0 Partition 3: ACER (This is where your actual present OS is)

Disk 0 Partition 4: DATA (This is just storage for some of the data on the drive)

You need to decide if you think you may ever want to use the old factory restore again?

The fact that you are doing a squeaky clean install all by yourself :woohoo: I don't think you will ever want to go back to that? having to decrapify and all the rest?

If it were me Linny, I'd delete 1, 2, & 3 then format them as one large partition and install to that. When Windows is installing it will recreate that 100MB partition itself (It's needed for Win 7) so you don't need to worry about it & you don't want any remnant of the old install causing you grief, right?

Partition N04 is just storage space with whatever you might have had on it so you do what you like with that after the clean install & you are up and running again. You can look at it then & decide to wipe that partition or you might want to keep some of the stuff on it? Your call ;) It wont affect your new install eitherway.

thank you was worried incase i did any more damage. have done as suggested and now pressed next - so its now starting ..............watch this pace!

Never doubted your ability Linny (y)

First thing you shold do now is

1. Download & install Windows Security Essentials: HERE:

2. Download and install Malwarebytes Antimalware: HERE:

3. Click the Start Orb and right click on Computer, choose Manage & then go to device manager and make sure it's all happy with drivers.

After that it's up to you to tailor it to your needs. ;)

Oh! Don't forget to check your activation status ;)
