The scene in Ballymun has been preserved

A murder investigation is under way following the discovery of a man’s body in an apartment in Ballymun.

The man, who was originally from the Netherlands, was stabbed to death. His body was discovered at 4pm.

The alarm was raised after he failed to show up for his clerical job at a business in Santry.

The first floor apartment at the Linnbhla Apartment Complex remains sealed off pending a forensic examination.

State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy carried out a preliminary examination at the scene and the man's body has been removed to the city morgue for a post mortem.

Gardaí worked with international police forces to try to identify the victim.

They have also appealed for anyone who may have seen anything in the area from last Friday until today to contact them.
