Paypal Phishing

Just thought I would post this

Got an Email today supposedly off paypal, in summary it went something like this,

It said I have sent a gift payment of £51 (weird amount ) to some name i'd never heard of.

They had suspended the payment for my security, could I please click link to ensure the payment is cancelled.

So I clicked the link, looked exactly like the paypal login page to a tee, username password box, looked proper.

So I logged in to paypay through my normal method looked at the FAQ on security, here is what it said.

Even if a URL contains the word 'PayPal', it may not be a PayPal webpage.
When using PayPal, always ensure that the URL address listed at the top of the browser displays as https://www.paypal.com/. The 's' in ‘https’ means the website is secure.
Look for the 'lock' symbol that appears in the address bar. This symbol indicates that the site you're visiting is secure.

If you think you’ve received a phishing email, forward it to spoof@paypal.co.uk and then delete the fake email from your mailbox. If you‘ve responded to a fraudulent email and believe your PayPal account may now have been accessed, you should report the unauthorised access immediately.

Note:

If you provided any personal information in response to a phishing email or on a spoof website, change your Password and Security Questions immediately.
If you provided any financial information, contact your bank and your credit card issuer and tell them about the situation.
Review your PayPal account history to check that you recognise all recent payments.

So checked Email and link page and what do you know, no lock in the corner and no https in the URL.

Thought I'd post it as my mates wife got something similar the other day so they must be doing the rounds.

"They had suspended the payment for my security, could I please click link to ensure the payment is cancelled"

The sneaky little B@st@rds !!!

I've been getting at least 2 of these a week for the last couple of months I should be getting commission from PayPal for reporting fake emails, if you get any just forward them to spoof@paypal.com and they shut them down, helps out other people who aren't as clued up.

bunch of scammers, I`ve had similar like this supposed to be paypal. The other scam lately is HMRC saying you`ve over paid, sent via text. Its all fake.

Bet it's those nice Nigerian bank managers who keep offering me shares of a fortune if I send them my details LOL
Reaper.
