Years ago I used to have a TiVo Series one. I got a network card installed in it and a web server so that I could access it remotely and schedule recordings.
I believe it's possible to do this with a zgemma box, but it's a bit risky opening the port on the internet.
I was wondering how difficult would it be to write an application that monitors an inbox or a twitter account so that emails/messages can be sent to it to record programs. Like if the subject contains "world strongest man" it'll record all episodes on the current day.
Or better still, if it can be integrated with ifttt.com so recordings can be set up from numerous sources.
