hi guys when using my either net cable it does not seam to connect back off the box the green light flashes very fast been told the fimware might need updating will the be the case
as when i use the wfii usb it work fine

if the green light is green that means its connecting doesn't it?

Network settings
Ethernet
Enable it.

As dillyp said, make sure ethernet is enabled.
If that fails, try a different cable.
