Cable Update firmware H1

Newbie
Hi Sorry if its been asked before but I looking at updating my firmware from Openvix hades to something a bit newer.
I not a novice to flashing boxes but to be honest I'm a if it aint broke don't fix it sort of bloke so don't change unless I need to , but by the looks of it my image is out of date , can't download any plugins.
I'm looking at adding a few of the newer plugins, Tsmedia/kodidirect and so on so I'm thinking I need a newer image ?
Apart from saving my lines (vm/sly) is there anything else I need to save/back up?
Also if I do a new image flash will I lose all my saved movies of my HDD ?
Again sorry if its sound a bit nooby

Interested in peoples opinions on which images their using ?
Anybody using sucmnsee latest vix backup zgemma - 2s-s-h1-h2 ?
