eBay Best Offers

Anybody else noticed with eBay Best Offers lately that sellers put it on their listings but don't barter, I'm finding it more and more lately. With straight declines and no counter offers, if I do get a counter it'll be like 50p-£1 under their original price. GETS RIGHT UP MY NOSE as it's a waste of time for everyone.

Latest one, laptop CPU, up for £14.99. eBay's own price range was £9-15, offered £10 expecting him to meet me in the middle around £12.50.........STRAIGHT DECLINE! I'm finding it with literally every Best Offer listing lately

RANT OVER lol :ROFLMAO:

It does happen a lot or as you put your bid in by miracle some else has big at same time it's like wtf there was one previous bid so went £1.50 higher but as I put my bid in it was too low

I think in that case it’s auto bidding, their maximum bid was already higher than yours so eBay bids on their behalf

I just bought another CPU for £16.99 out of principle even though it’s higher than his buy it now. Yes that’s right, I cut my nose off to spite my face:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Glad im not the only one thats noticed ffs i bid on a intercooler for car other day and mysteriously someone else immidiately outbid ffs bearing in mind mine was the only bid.
Its like they got bot bidding in the background to hike the price up ffs.

Yeh that’s the auto bidding EBay does. They must of set their max bid higher than the bid you submitted.

Well that is weird if yours was the only bid.

Yeah i immediately sent a message to the seller but got no reply as i suspected .
It was probably a friend of his/ hers lurking in the background with a counter bid to increase the price ffs.
If it wasnt put in straight away i may not have suspected anything but it was an instant bid ffs.

RANT OVER lol :ROFLMAO:
Moved to the rant room - the clue is in your words LMAO

I don't use the bay too often, but I remember once I was looking for a diving drysuit, but didn't have time to follow the bid as I was driving a bus, and didn't think it would be appreciated for me to be playing with my phone, I put in a max bid , when I checked back ebay had made about 10 bids on my behalf until my money ran out.
This is the only time I have noticed this, but don't doubt that there is a lot of unusual stuff happening.

With a "Friend" bidding on their behalf, surely they can get stung and have to pay the ebay fees and still be stuck with the goods?

If I sell something I don't use the auction bit and sometimed forget to untick the Offers bit, and to be quite honest there are more people taking the P*** with there offers than bogus bidders, I usually blank them!!

Get what you're saying Toddy, was selling a £4k car recently (already underpriced as I just wanted shot) and people send you offers of £2k, not even worth sending a counter offer in those cases..........but people list things for £50, you send them an offer for £45 and they come back with £49 or £49.50 or straight decline it.......like they just don't understand the basics of selling, it's just a waste of everyones time. Increasingly see faccebook ads etc with NO OFFERS written on it, I keep on scrolling out of principle lol

But surely if the seller says ‘no offers’, then the price is the price! What's wrong with that?

Does the seller need to inflate the price so that the buyer feels better chipping him down?

Nothing wrong with that! I get pissed when for some reason I think I've indicated no offers but eBay have and it gets difficult to change it back on portable devices!

Nothing 'wrong' with it, just doesn't work due to the psychology involved with buying & selling. You see them listed for ages with very little activity on them, people like to barter and can ultimately pay a higher price than the no offers item but because they got money off they feel like they got a good deal. Retailers have perfected the art of duping us unless you're savvy enough to see through it, they are simply an evolution of private sales tactics though.

I offered 1p less than asking and got declined once :ROFLMAO:

I also made an offer of £737.50 just over 2 weeks ago for a Watch that the seller was asking £750 for, and they turned me down. Now 2 weeks later the price has been slashed to £725 or best offer.

Some sellers just tickle me pink with their altitude towards eBay Best Offer.
