Listen to Music, Watch Videos* & View Pictures on your Xbox 360:

If you have your Xbox connected to any PC via RJ45 Ethernet or Wirelessly, you can stream Audio,
Video & Pictures to the Xbox very easily.

If you are not using the Media Center capabilities of your Xbox? why not take advantage of this sweet
feature and give it a go?

You can, for example, use it to watch movies downloaded to your PC without the need to
convert them to DVD format & having to burn them to Disc.

Procedure:

At the PC end:

Open Windows Media Player.

Turn on media sharing by clicking on the little arrow directly below the Library TAB and then click on Media Sharing.

(1) In the Media Sharing dialog box, select the Share my media to check box.

(2) In the list of devices below the Share my media to check box, select your Xbox 360.

(3) Click Allow

(4) Click OK

Configure your Xbox 360:

(1) In the Media section, select Music, Picture or Photos.

(2) Select Computer, and then press the A button.

(3) Select YES, Continue, and then press the A button.

(4) Select your Windows XP-based PC, and then press the A button.

(5) Find the music, pictures, or video you want to play, and select an item to play it.

* To stream video to your Xbox360 console you must update your console with the FALL 06 update.

Firewall Considerations:

Make sure to allow the following in your particular Firewall.

Applications:

Windows Media Player:
(Located @) C:\PROGRAM FILES\WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER\WMPLAYER.EXE

Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service:
(Located @) C:\PROGRAM FILES\WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER\WMPNETWK.EXE

System Services:

Microsoft File Sharing and Printing.

Adding & allowing the folder(s) that will be available to the Xbox:

Open Windows Media Player and click on the Library TAB and then click on "Add To Library"

In this example I'm using a folder called Xbox_Media which is located on my 'S' Drive,
but it can be any folder on any drive of your choice.

In the resulting window follow these steps (see below).

(1) Check the radio button for "My folders and those of others that I can see"

(2) Click on the 'ADD' button.

(3) Browse to the folder you wish to make available to the Xbox, highlight it & click OK.

You should now see it in the list.

(4) Click OK.

Now, any files you put into the selected folder will be available for use on the Xbox 360's menus.

Enjoy!

Interesting you should say that homesick, I have only set this up on 4 users systems (including my own) & have never encountered any problems. They all seem to work flawlessly.

Can you elaborate as to what kind of issues you are referring too?

Ah! right,

My original post is based purely on the assumption that the connection between the Xbox and the PC is already established (Hard wired or Wireless).

Issues relating to problems encountered when trying to setup a wireless connection is a totally different topic & deserves a section all of its own?

lol yea, i gave up on it, it is too much of a headache for me. :)

The only reason I asked the question is this,

In my own scenario, my sons Xbox and TV resides in his bedroom which is in the upper level of our house.
My PC is based on the ground floor.

I have a wireless connection between both, so, whenever I download a documentary or movie which is of interest to him, I simply drag & drop it into the Xbox_Media folder on my PC, this makes it instantly available to him to watch.

The whole concept is very beneficial & is much under utilised by many users.

My fear is that over complicating it needlessly might cause users to refrain from giving it a go.

yea, i did have it working awhile back, roughly 2 years ago, and i didnt get that much use out of it, but thats just because my pc and xbox are in the same room. lol so i didnt really have a need to do that, if anything i was burning what i was watching or listening to and taking it into the other room. much easier for me, than having to un hook all of the wires from the back of the tv and drag the xbox to the next room. great concept tho. just need users like you who will find it benefical!
