BT, IPTV and Samsung Smart TV

Android07

Newbie
Hi

I have a Samsung 7 series Smart TV.
My ISP is BT and the supplied router is Smart Hub 2. My broadband package is BT FTTP 150Mbps.
I have installed smart IPTV app using a USB stick. I am currently subscribed with an IPTV provider.

I notice that sometimes ( particularly weekends ), the channels do not load. SmartIPTV app shows the channel list but when I choose a channel, I get CONNECTING.... and it stays there and eventually says CONNECTION FAILED.

I did an experiment today when IPTV channels were not showing and found this :
-WIRED connection to router - no change
-WIRELESS connection to router - no change
-WIRELESS connection to Mobile hotspot on my phone - works!
-Opening M3U playlist on my PC in VLC - works!

I have manually added IP, DNS ( first BT and then 8.8.8.8 ) and this did not work either.
My IPTV provider thinks that I may be blocked due to geo-location thingy and provide me with a new link for a M3U playlist but that mde no difference on the TV.

What's the best way around this? Thanks.

Try a VPN. Trouble is with your setup is you are going to need a VPN router which some VPN providers give you free.

However, this comes at a cost. As it will slow all of your network down.

Or you can try another provider, or buy a android box.

If you have the duplex app on your tv try that. Smart iptv is not fit for purpose now

I’m also on B.T internet..
They have been blocking footie for a long time now..your only answer is to use a vpn during these times
I used to have my IPTV on a Samsung smart tv using the smart IPTV app then went to nomid but was always getting blocking issues as you can not use a vpn on Samsung tv so to start I purchased a tp-link router and set up a vpn on that then connected tv to the router and it was fine worked great..
Then I decided I wanted to have a bit more versatility so purchased a nvidia shield tv tube that’s android and I can now use vpn apps super easy super fab super sweet..Brilliant bit of kit..sure it’s a few quid but by the time you pay a bit here to fix one thing then a bit there..hell get a decent android box/tube you can do it all..install everything from google play or a downloader app..best thing I done buy a shield..loads of IPTV apps available along with every conceivable vpn app..you need a vpn account for best results..but there’s a big choice..I got a lifetime vpn from BulletVPN for 29 quid and works brilliantly..

True enough by the time you buy a half decent router you may aswell by a decent android box. If you don't want to pay sheild prices you have loads of choice

I think one that bazz rates is the amiko A6

You are getting blocked at a weekend it's simple as that there's been major blocks for past couple of months now the tests you ran proved nothing as mobile network providers arnt part of the court order hence why it worked on 4g.
As for devices it depends on budget if not wanting to spend big easiest option 4k fire stick is probably easiest option.
But there is a thread with all different reviews on boxes used

I tried Duplex as well and ran into the same issue - no channels load.

I don't even watch footie  Not fair that I have to suffer.
Thanks for the NVIDIA shield and BulletVPN recommendations.

The firestick reminded me of the times of old when I bought an Intel compute stick and used a Bluetooth mouse to watch channels from TVPlayer from my couch.
I was just wondering if maybe I should just change my phone plan to one with more data, and use this only during the weekends as a Mobile hostspot.

On balance I would buy a dedicated box, but it is upto you.

This will work, but will possibly cost you more in the long run than buying a device that you can put a vpn on.

Another option, there's been a bit of talk of this little vpn router

https://www.amazon.co.uk/GL-iNet-GL-MT300N-V2-Converter-Pre-installed-Performance/dp/B073TSK26W

Only £20, add a decent paid vpn (buy via a cashback site for best value) and your viewing shouldn't be affected by the blocks.

I did mention briefly VPN routers the cheap ones are normally rubbish.

You would probably need quite a bit of data to run IPTV through your phone.

Over two years it will be much better to buy a box. And VPN

Even tho they state unlimited its never truly unlimited as the will still slow the speeds down and for all hassle of changing phone providers pac code ect you could've had a vpn router setup and watching next round of epl fixtures

Often true, but many people are so happy with 4g speeds and stability that they're replacing their home broadband with it.

It has crossed my mind to get rid of sky for mobile sim

Don't do it. Wait for the full fibre roll out. It probably won't be long before you can get BT. Don't forget there is no minimum gaurntee with 4g broadband. We had onre of those BT things while the net was down we were getting 20 meg. I don't know what the average is.
