Broadband Retentions leaving Virgin question - Price increase

The common consensus is if you cancel and give them the notice you would get the best deal possible even more so where you don't cancel and they give you an offer.
Think ill ring up again an cancel. Just found an offer for same speed for bew customers for £24

VM tried to put mine up to £73pm starting in March. Rang yesterday threatened to leave, they gave me the same deal for £50pm on 18 month contract.
They are like insurance companies they try it on hoping 50% of people aren't bothered and stay with them at new prices, if you threaten to leave magically they put their prices down
Update -
I got the new deal from VM above then looked on sky website and saw a deal for £39 per month although BB wasn't as good, I'm on 200mb. So I called VM back and said I wanted to leave (you are allowed due to cooling off period) to go to sky (was never going to go). Got a call about 7pm last night and got offered TV upgrade from Fun package to Maxit package plus BT sports for 18 months for £41 per month.
Keep your nerve and you will benefit people.

Called back this morning and told them i wanted to cancel as new customers were getting it cheaper. Knocked it down to 23.50 for 100mb.

You cancel by giving notice?

Could have potentially got more from them if you just went through to normal retentions.

Do that just say I'm not happy I've found a better deal, even better if you can say were the deal is.
This is a cracker £75 cashbackScreenshot_20210226-235314_Chrome.jpg⅔ⁿ¥¥¥¥¥¥

Phone them and cancel contract. Wait for them to call YOU back, don`t take there first offer.

1st callback 50p off, 2nd callback another 50p off, 3rd callback offered 100mb for £15 a month on a 18 month contract. Deal done.

I was very shocked mate. I said a wanted the new customer deals which was £21 for 18 months and £100 bill credit. £15 a month works out about the same.

My deal is not as good as the above, but I am happy with it.

I was on 50MB and all day calls paying £38.50, with my loyalty credit ending it was going up to £54. I rang Retentions and was offered 100MB for £52.
I told them to cancel as I would be going to PlusNet for £32 (all day calls, but only 36MB).
VM called today and offered me 100MB and all day calls for £31....! -- Accepted, but why they couldn't offer something similar earlier I just don't know??!!

Suspect they were just getting under the price offered by PlusNet

From what other have said on here generally you never get the best deal if you just go to retentions.

Only once you cancel and give them notice and they call you that you would generally get the best deals.

Exaclty that mate. Cancel and play the waiting game. Don't bottle it. Retentions will call. Normally a few days before your termination date.

I refused all offers and I waited until the last day of my cancellation notice and called them, 350mb and weekend calls for £41.50, was £38 but have just had their annual £3.50 hike by looks of it.

If price increase has occurred you can legally cancel with no termination charges to worry about.

But make sure its before the date they state. Screwed me over and said couldn't cancel without termination charges being applied despite not getting notice of price increase.

Just Seen this but was looking at the below deal, when my contract was comming up in feb, used to be on 100mb plus basic phone at £24pm
Gave termination notice, called the retentions number on the thread 2 weeks before it was up and got offered 100mb plus basic phone at £20pm
Askes how much 200mb plus phone was and it was 3quid more, so now on 200mb plus phone for £23pm

Virgin Media M100 Broadband + Phone 18 months via Broadband Unbundled Deals MSE £23.95 pm (Total £431.10) + £100 credit @ Virgin Media - hotukdeals

Good to hear like I keep saying ignore the scare mongerers who say " They never called me back" their lying they probably missed the call or work for Virgin. Sit tight retensions will 100% call you then that's when you bang your drum
