Box/Device for Catchup TV Apps (plus IPTV as bonus) - Firestick Alternative

Hi,

I'm looking to purchase a device to watch catchup TV app the like of iPl*yer, Al*4, IT*Hub, My5 (and others such as Plex if possible).

I'd like to add IPTV facilities to the device too.

There's the FireS*ick 4K which would be my first port of call, but I'm just wondering if there's an alternative Android based box which would do the job better?

Any help would be great.

Cheers

There are many but the ones I tested are Buzztv XRS 4900 and the formuler Z8 pro
But catch-up will depend on your provider .
However you can record using XC API multiline while watching another channel.

He wants catch up through the legit apps.

A 4k stick will do all that you want it to do. Nvidia Shield is the leading device on the market, depends if you want to spend that much - it's debatable whether it's worth it's price tag. The AI upscaling, smooth use, better remote and superior user interface are reasons I rate it above my 4k Fire Stick. For some reason you can't get All4 (the channel 4 app) on the shield but can on a FS if that influences your decision.

If you have a smart tv most TVs have all the catch-up apps like demand 5 iPlayer itv hub ect there’s no right or wrong device for what you are wanting.
I wouldn’t fork out over £100 for a device just for catch-up and I wouldn’t pay nearly £50 for same unless you was going to use the likes of Netflix nowtv ect

Thanks for the replies guys.

I agree, most TV's these days do provide catchup apps but the screen I'm running is a display-setup, so there's no option for 'Smart' apps to be run.

You mention 'other' catchup facilities (IPTV most likely). Would these be available through services which could be accessed via a Firestick or would other Android devices be the only option to view these additional services? I remember years ago I had a Kodi setup which provided season's of old boxsets (not available on Netflix), do these exist via Plex hosted services?

Ye can access IPTV, Plex services and the like via the fire stick as well as other android devices if you choose.

Plex services do have a sufficent amount of VOD on them as well as VOD servers themselves.

A firestick would be a wise option as you still can have kodi and repos on them or you could get a shared plex account or even an IPTV sub which will have live TV movies and series on demand there is even free apps you can side load onto a firestick for movies and tv shows have a look on YouTube bud there will be loads of tutorials for you to watch and see what’s best for you

You will find most suppliers VOD servers are no different from what they give you with a IPTV sub.

As for catch-up it will depend on the supplier one of mine has catch up on most UK channels.

If you are just looking at FTA don't be spending a fortune on a box. Firestick will do.
