Newbie
Hi all, I'm new to all this and recently changed my broadband provider to BT. So now I have the BT fibre 1. I actually wanted BT fibre 2, However it's not currently in my area yet. I'm looking at IPTV, but would this speed be enough. The chap from BT said it was ideal for streaming, and online gaming. So I was just wondering, what any of you guys thought. Never used a forum like this before, and choosing another broadband provider has made my head explode. I will add an image do you can all see, and se Screenshot_20210914-193325_Yahoo Mail.jpgwhat you guys think. Cheers everyone 👍

You will manage fine with that as long as other items in your house hold are not using large chunks of bandwidth as well.

nice one, thank you so much. this has just baffled me for weeks, about who to go with. The only thing I use is the ps4, but obviously I won't have both running at same time. I looked at Virgin but they couldn't provide the service to my apartment, due to being on the 3rd floor. Then I thought about talktalk, and heard different sorties about them. I was with sky, but cancelled the lot, was just getting more and more expensive, plus the broadband wasn't running to what they said it would, then it just kept switching off, so decided to bin sky off completely.

What are you using now device wise is it just the play station.

I was using sky super fast fibre, but I wasn't getting anywhere near the speeds, then it was lagging whilst I was on line, then some of the on line channels kept buffering, especially when I was watching Britbox for some reason, reported it loads of times to sky, said there was nothing wrong with it, but when I tested the speed on my sky app, kept saying I had issues, but sky kept saying nothing wrong, so in the end I binned sky off altogether.

Make sure you don't have the ps4 downloading games/updates coz that proper hammers the speed, my kids do it and it makes streams buffer like hell till they've done.

Your speeds should be fine for streaming iptv, although if you need a vpn best to choose a reputable one that doesn't lower your speed too much. Some examples are nordvpn, Surfshark, ipvanish.

Have you done a speed test on your broadband lately to see what your getting.

I was with sky super fast broadband, but had so many issues with it. I ran my own diagnostic test using the sky app, that kept coming back saying its running at right speed. I phoned sky don't know how many times, they said nothing wrong with it. So I finally decided to bin sky off altogether. BT did say if I had any trouble with it, they would send out an engineer to look at it for me. BT couldn't of been more helpful to be honest, so I thought I'd give them a go.

So have you done a test on your bt line to see what download speed your getting now you have swapped provider.

Brilliant, thanks for that. If I ever need to update any of the games or update the ps4 I do it overnight, so should be all sorted with that.

my contract with sky runs out on the 27th this month, and then BT switches on, on the 28th, so once its turned over I will do the test. I presume I do it via the BT app I guess, which I need to download

For fhd streams on iptv you usually need around 15mbps steady, if it dips below this you will see glitching which will drive you nuts. Saw alot of people complaining about bts WiFi for their speeds, so I'd recommend that you run an ethernet cable to your device so you you get consistent speeds if you opt for that package. Is your property not able to get vm fibre either?

yeh, I did it with sky again yesterday, and the report I was getting said I wasn't getting the speeds I should be. So contacted sky again, they did there own, said it was fine, so had this big debate with sky, in the end I just decided to get rid of sky altogether, then went for BT who couldn't be more helpful. BT said if I wasn't getting the right speeds, they would send out an engineer to look at it for me. So fingers crossed when the change over happens on the 28th, I'm hoping all is fine.

no I wanted them to start with, for some reason they can't do it to the apartment building I'm in

BT/Plusnet have the best customer service and openreach who run the network are part of them. You will be fine but you may need to phone up when your switch over takes place. I did it 2 weeks ago and needed a kick their side to get the line working.

nice one. I'll keep my eye on that, he did say If I had any problems at all they would sort it. I found BT customer service absolutely brilliant, he couldn't do enough. So fingers crossed it all works fine come the 28th 🤞

The bloke I spoke to at BT said they would do anything to resolve any issues I have if the speed dips. So hopefully it should be ok. 👍

yeh did a test yesterday the speed is ok, I've had no issues, but it did come back saying the speed is not running right, that I need to contact sky again, but there's no point I just get the same answer from Sky saying everything is fine. I change providers next week so I will see what happens when the switch over takes place.

I'm just using ps4 but don't have it connected to WiFi all the time, only use it to update any software, which I do either at night. Then I have my Tablet connected to the WiFi, but only use that now and again, when I watch TV in bed, then I have my phone connected to the WiFi. So really it will only be one device at a time I'll have connected.
