I would 100% go Ryzen. The one @pupuqiop posted with a 5700U smashes the competition. If you can find a 15.6 variant. For context this is how it stacks up against the HP one at Argos with the Pentium Gold and the Asus Vivoook with the Celeron...
Close to 6X as Fast at Multi Core...

Intel dominated the CPU Market for years. But with Ryzen the competition is great again. Intel used to just push 4 Core 8 Threads for years as the competition was minimal. However, since 2017 AMD have stepped up. This is a decent buy might need to grab an external hard drive down the line....

Yes but he said that he wants a 15" + this is only a 14", good specs though, I would downsize an inch or so for it, if I was needing one

AMD Ryzen 5 3500U processor, 8GB Ram and AMD Radeon Vega 8 graphics.
I didn't buy it to be all singing all dancing but it doesn't even do the basics well. It feels very badly made as well.
Not a patch on my old ASUS lappys which I will be sticking to in future.
