Horrific download speed through VPN

Afternoon all

Until November last year I had been using IPTV through a Mag420 without any VPN for about a year. Magbox was connected direct to Virgin Media Hub 3 and was getting download speeds of over 200meg/sec no issue. Do you need to know my IPTV provider? Am I allowed to say publicly? Not sure if it matters.

Anyway around November gone, started to get blocked etc and IPTV provider advised VPN was now required, and suggested Liberty Shield Lite router, which I got.

The blocking issue has been sorted, I use a Swiss IP and a London server. But my Download speed through the VPN router is now under 5meg/sec. Making it virtually I’m possible to watch any channels that are not Standard Definition?

Thoughts?

Im in Dublin, Ireland if that matters.

Virgin are the worst for blocking i find set the router to auto connect and it should find the quickest connection. Change countries manually and do a speed test via the magbox on each country to see which is quickest.

No you're not allowed to name providers.
Never used liberty shield myself but 98% speed loss seems excessive.
Have you tried a different VPN?

it is vpn router libertyshield is built in he cannot change vpn provider. Probably better to just but firesick then he can add any vpn he likes.

@moshibeth Is auto connect a feature of Liberty Shield Lite? I’ll try your recommendation of checking each country. Can the country my IP is set to, and also the country the server I have selected, both influence download speed? Or just one or the other?

@pabloescaban thanks for the heads up on naming IPTV providers. I haven’t tried a different VPN. Any suggestions? I gather it has to be a new physical VPN router considering it has to connect to Magbox via Ethernet.

As @urie mentioned above, it would probably be quicker and cheaper to just use a different device.
Mag box is extremely limited given that you can't run a VPN on the device and it's looking like most providers are moving away from mag boxes

To be honest it was bad advise given to you by your provider. Test each country and do a speed test on the mag if it does not improve change to a different device (android) Firesticks/formuler/ amiko this will allow you to install a direct vpn.

The speed loss will be due to limitations of the router. I had the same one before with similar issues.

Should still be getting more than 5 mbps off 200+ on main router
It’s a really crap router, I struggled to stream Netflix in HD with it on a 60mb connection.

Interesting. What router/vpn provider did you change to?
I tried it about 6/7 years back to watch US Netflix. In the end I ended up using a smart dns.

You’d be better off with a dd-wrt/openwrt router or an android device with a vpn. They’ll work out cheaper in the long run then liberty shield.

Agreed with @Drbox i tried a Liberty router years ago absolute crap, the hardware does not have the spec to be useful .

If you want a proper vpn router look at the AC86U ive a 200meg line, here are my speed test results Nord connected to London. Not a cheap option and a firestick or similar running VPN app and STBEmu to emulate a mag box and your IPTV account may be the better option.

MRYAN, Select Norway,it’s one of the best I found around Europe,it constantly held high speeds for me on IP vanish, hopefully this will help you out if your on virgin, also 1 small thing too do too , is go to settings on your vpn and tick the Box that says unblocks automatically locked out ips .👍 Norway and Iceland are 2 of the best countries I found to go to if you have to use a vpn,and closest to the uk and Ireland.
