Looking for basic freesat/Saoirview box

So i went with the ZGEMMA H8.2H, ive flashed it with the latest openATV, put a blue looking skin on it, tuned in both Saoirview and free Satellite channels - what else should I add/delete from it?
Any suggestions? It's not for IPTV, just the two above options..

You can use IPTV on that and integrate the channels into the bouquets list with full EPG.

You don't say version of openatv but if I was you I would put openvix on it as vix now comes with all the bits you need included, all you do is enable and so on, very easy. I have switched to openatv7.3 and use metric skin, looks bluish, for epg you need crossepg ie get it from plugins, green to download, etc then configure. For ABM you need autoboquetsmaker, it may be installed look under reception., otherwise green again etc. If it does not have a HDD then use a stick for the EPG very important. For some channels you may need epg importer green again etc.

Read the post above - its not for IPTV, only freesat and Saoirview.

I did- i said latest openATV. I'm not averse to VIX, convince me it's better than ATV.

What are you doing for EPG? What is your preference? Your options will depend on whether you are just watching Freesat channels are also watching other FTA satellite channels on 28.2. And whether it's guaranteed that you will be watching a Saorview channel at least every few days.

Whatever epg that is set up in ATV, as I boot it up, couple of minutes later the epg has populated.
It is for a friend's weekend holiday home, there's no Internet, she'll watch Saoirview plus some FTA Satellite channels.

The front of the box displays a wite zgemma logo when powered up, a red one when off, is there a setting I'm missing to display a clock on it?

For the Terrestrial channels, the EPG will be absorbed as you are tuned to a Terrestrial channel. Same for the Freesat channels (There is a fast transponder too). For the FTA channels only on Sky, you need to zap to the channels or onto the Sky Transponder.

As it's a weekend home, the manual zapping will be fine. Otherwise install EPG refresh and set the channels to zap to.

There is no clock on the h82h due to its size.

H17 combo has one but thats twice the price.
Are you certain about that just thinking ,years back even on old hs2 clock was not displayed but there was permanent clock vfd or download vfd control.

As in example zgemma h9 combo

Apologies if this is the wrong thread to ask but I have a similar question to the OP.

I’m looking for a Freesat box to replace my Freesat humax box that’s about 10 years old. It’s only for Freesat and not IPTV, doesn’t even need to connect to the internet but it needs to be able to record channels, including to record one channel and watch a different channel at the same time (or record 2 channels and don’t watch anything).

Main thing is that it needs to be simple to use/idiot proof as it’s for my family. Thanks!

Im all in favour of Freesat having a LG TV with it and a mutant box, but they aren't going to be the future, with the death of the Satellites in the next 3 to 4 years!
A better option maybe the Manhattan freely box giving all the live channels plus recording options without the use of an Ariel or Dish

The Manhattan freely box doesn’t have a record option. It has catch up apps instead.

Freely is still in its early days at the moments. It looks like a good idea from a distance, but none of the major tv manufacturers (Samsung, LG, Sony) have implemented it in their sets yet. Samsung are pushing Samsung TV Plus; LG have something similar I believe.

Satellite will be going until at least the end of 2029. Freeivew will be going until 2034.

You could buy a box with satellite and terrestrial tuners. Alternatively, usb dvb-t tuners work with many of these boxes.
